CSUN Men in Fourth and Women in Seventh After Day One of MPSF Championships

SPOKANE, Wash.---CSUN Track & Field completed day one of the 2025 MPSF Championships on Friday at the Podium. The CSUN men's team finished the day in fourth place while the women's team was in seventh place heading into tomorrow's competition.
Senior Trey Knight successfully defended his weight throw title, winning the event for the second year in a row while the men's team combined to score 36 team points. The women's team closed the day with 19 team points.
MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Knight repeated as the MPSF weight throw champion with a top throw of 23.26m (76-3.75), scoring 10 points for the CSUN men's team. With his victory, Knight becomes the first two-time conference weight throw champion in school history. The Matadors picked up two more team points in the weight throw with Tylor Connelly finishing in seventh place with the 10th-best throw in program history at 17.98m (59-0).
CSUN recorded 13 total team points in the 200m where four all-time top-10 indoor times in school history were set. Chase Mars posted the second-best 200m time in school history with a mark of 20.79 to finish in second place and score CSUN eight team points. James Crawford posted the third-best time in school history by running at 20.89 to place fifth overall in the event and score four team points. Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. also scored, running a time of 21.26 for the fifth-best time in CSUN history, finishing in eighth place with one team point. Also cracking the top 10 in the event was Daniel Harper who finished 10th overall with the sixth-best time in school history at 21.27.
In the long jump, Tibyasa Matovu scored six team points for CSUN with a leap of 7.25m (23-9.5) to finish in third place and reach the podium. Joey Nations was fifth in the event, gaining CSUN four team points with a leap of 7.19m (23-7.25) while Jay Louison-Roe was eighth at 6.97m (22-10.5) for one team point.
CSUN had two qualify for the 60m finals, set for Saturday. In the prelims, Mars was second overall with a time of 6.63 while Harper also qualified for the finals with a time of 6.76, finishing sixth. Wiggins was 12th in the event at 6.86.
Overall, Washington State led the field with 71 points while Long Beach State was second with 65 points and Portland was third with 42 points. Below CSUN, Cal State Fullerton was fifth at 35 points and UC Riverside was sixth with 15 points.
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Summer Mosely was the top CSUN performer on the women's side, finishing in second place in the weight throw with a toss of 19.30m (63-4) to score eight team points. Katherine Shipp-Davis was third in the event, setting a PR with a toss of 16.94 (55-7) and scoring six team points. Myli Level cracked the top 10 in the event, finishing ninth with a PR of 15.73m (51-7.25).
Kaliyah Poston earned five team points in the 200m by running at 24.02 to finish fourth overall. Poston would also qualify for the finals of the 60m as she ran at 7.54 to finish fourth in the prelim round.
Zola Grey just missed scoring for CSUN in the long jump. Her leap of 5.64m (18-6) was ninth overall at the event.
In the 5000m, Ami Jacobson posted the fifth-best indoor time in school history at 17:52.31 as she finished 18th overall in the event.
Two Matadors competed in the women's pentathlon, but both did not finish. Brianna Kelpis finished three of the competitions, placing the highest in the shot put as she was second with a throw of 11.78m (38-7.75). Kelpis was also fifth in the 60m-hurdles at 8.82 and 11th in the high jump at 1.55m (5-1). Audrie Reuss finished four of the five events, placing as high as 13th in the shot put at 9.65m (31-8).
Oregon State leads the women's field with 46.5 points followed by Long Beach State (46 points), UC Davis (37 points), Washington State (36 points), Hawai'i (35.5 points) and UC Irvine (21 points). Below CSUN are UC Riverside (16 points), Portland (nine points), Pepperdine (three points) and both Cal State Fullerton (two points) and Saint Mary's (two points).
