NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Senior thrower Trey Knight made more CSUN history on Thursday by earning his second consecutive MPSF Male Athlete of the Year award, as announced by the conference office. Knight becomes the first CSUN student-athlete in any sport to win two career major MPSF awards.
A native of Ridgefield, Wash., Knight repeated as weight throw champion at the 2025 MPSF Indoor Championships last Saturday at the Podium in Spokane, Wash. He won the event with a toss of 23.26m (76-3.75), more than 12 feet further than second place. That win gave Knight the distinction of the first two-time weight throw champion in CSUN history.
Earlier this indoor season, Kight recorded the best toss in the nation in the weight throw at the Nevada Invitational on Jan. 24. His toss went for 24.87m (81-7.25), breaking his own school record. That mark has stood as the best toss in the nation throughout the indoor season. Knight's record-breaking toss was the third-best in collegiate history and the eighth-best in world history.
Following Knight's historic performance in Nevada, Knight became the first Matador to ever be named National Athlete of the Week while he also took home MPSF Athlete of the Week accolades.
Last season, Knight finished as the national weight throw runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston with a then-school record toss of 24.14m (79-2.5). During the outdoor season, Knight would also become Big West Field Athlete of the Year and finish sixth overall in the nation in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Knight is set to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, this season held in Virginia Beach, Va. The weight throw event will be held on Friday, March 14.
