NEBRASKA 3, CSUN 2
Looking for their seventh win in a row in the afternoon dual, the Matadors had three match points in the No. 3 pair before the Huskers came back to win the 3's and then the No. 1 pair to clinch the win. Hall and Heflin improved to 9-0 on the season after opening the scoring with a dominating 21-11, 21-13 victory over Laney Choboy and Skyler Pierce on the No. 4 court. Nebraska pulled even to wrap up the first flight as Rebekah Allick and Olivia Mauch held off Mendiola and Bazylevych in three sets, 21-18, 12-21, 22-20. The first flight concluded with Sophia Jarosz and Elena Gonzalez-Hughes sweeping Taylor Landfair/Maisie Boesiger, 21-15, 21-15 in the exhibition contest.
With the score knotted at 1-1 heading to the final flight, CSUN inched closer when Miles and Cederlind swept Keri Leimbach and Campbell Flynn, 21-15, 21-12 in the No. 5 pair. Needing just one of the final two pairs, Coggins and Patrick claimed the first set over Harper Murray and Andi Jackson, 23-21 before the Huskers won set two, 21-11 and saved three match points at 14-11 to battle back for a 17-15 win at No. 3. Mae and Lindhardt dropped the opening set at No. 1 to Bergen Reilly and Teraya Signer before battling back to win set two, 21-19. The Huskers had enough in set three to take a 15-10 win to clinch the dual.
COACH ARI HOMAYUNÂ SAID
"A tough loss to Nebraska after a good win against the Master's. Giving credit where it's due, Nebraska has gotten much better at beach volleyball. Those girls are absolute machines on the indoor side, and it was only a matter of time until they started to figure the beach game out. With that being said, we had so many opportunities to win that one. Across the board, in all of the matches we lost, we had opportunities to win it or turn it around. We tried to beat Nebraska with power instead of beating them with our beach volleyball IQ, and so they got the better of us. This loss definitely stings, but we have to move on, considering we have six more matches to close out the week. Looking forward to some Big West play this weekend."
UP NEXT
The Matadors will next head to San Luis Obispo for this weekend's Big West Challenge at Cal Poly. CSUN will play six matches over three days beginning Friday against No. 8 Long Beach State and Sacramento State.
