Fresno State Narrowly Edges CSUN 4-3,

NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN lost in a heartbreaker tennis duel to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. CSUN fell to FSU after claiming the doubles point. Victoria Santibanez Luna and Elena Goodman won their singles' bouts in the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN got out in front early when it claimed the doubles point. To kick off the match, Angela Ho and Santibanez Luna bested Andjela Lopicic and Kiara Vukicevic, 6-2 on Court No. 1 to earn a half point. Then, CSUN earned the full doubles point when Yullia Zhytelna and Annette Robertson defeated Paulina Montiel and Eliza Dunbar 6-3 on court No. 3.

In singles play, CSUN earned its second point of the day right away as the first match to finish was at court No. 3. Santibanez Luna beat Charlotte Gisclon in a near sweep, 6-1, 6-0.Â

Santibanez Luna shared her thoughts on today's game, "Despite the loss, I think the girls competed really well and the energy was contagious throughout the courts. I think as the season goes on, everyone will keep playing better and the plan is to carry that momentum into conference play."

The Bulldogs struck back at No. 2 singles when Sofia Pizzoni bested Ho 6-3, 6-4. It would be Ho's second only loss this season in singles play.

Fresno State tied the game on court No.1. when Matilde Magrini overcame Zhytelna, 6-2 7-5.

CSUN countered by taking its third point of the afternoon at Court No. 5 when Goodman defeated Dunbar, 7-5, 6-3. This put CSUN on the doorstep of taking the victory.

"I was really happy to be out on the court today." Goodman said. "I felt like I handled the pressure points well and made smart adjustments throughout the match. Even though we didn't come out with the win, I am super proud of the whole team. We all fought until the very last point."

After taking its third point, CSUN fell at the next two singles matches, giving the Bulldogs the victory.

Vukicevic defeated Sofia Dermenjyan 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) on court No. 6 to tie the match.

Lopicic bested Emma Moratala Sanz in three sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to give FSU the fourth and final point.
