NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Senior thrower Trey Knight was honored with Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday, the league office announced. The award is the fourth in the career for Knight, the second-most in CSUN Men's Track & Field team history.
In his second meet of the outdoor season, Knight had an outstanding showing in the hammer throw at the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays this Saturday in Walnut, Calif. Knight competed in a 13-athlete field and finished in second place overall as he was bested by less than a meter. His sixth and final throw of his series went for 74.35m (243-11), his best of the day. He also cleared 70.0m in his fifth throw, which went for 71.49m.

Knight currently shares the national lead in the hammer throw this season with Minnesota's Kostas Zaltos. His season-best throw of 77.91m (255-7) at the Trojan Invite in March established not only a personal best for Knight, but it also shattered his own school record in the hammer. In the Big West, Knight holds an eight meter advantage on second place Travis Martin from Cal Poly this season.Â
A native of Ridgefield, Wash., Knight earned his second Big West Field Athlete of the Week award of the season after winning the award earlier this year in March. He also picked up two honors last season. His four Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors ties him with Derek Cooper for the second-most weekly conference honors (field or track) from the Big West in team history. Reindell Cole currently holds the CSUN record for the most honors with six.
CSUN's Track & Field teams returns to competition this Saturday, April 26 to compete at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.
