BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSUN Beach Volleyball team (14-13) earned its third straight 3-2 win over Big West rival Cal State Bakersfield as the Matadors claimed wins on the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 5 courts to claim its 14th win of the season on Saturday at Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Matadors picked up a win in the No. 1 pair as Tasha Mae and Kinley Lindhardt came back after dropping the opening set to hold on for a three-set win over Sarah Martin and Paola Caten, 24-26, 21-19, 15-11. CSUN also notched a three-set win in the same fashion on the No. 4 court as Maleya Miles and Layla Cederlind also dropped the first set before rebounding for a 21-23, 25-23, 15-10 win. The Matadors' No. 5 pair of Haley Coggins and Sophia Jarosz earned CSUN's third win, sweeping Bailey Combs and Olivia Silacci-Jensen, 22-20, 21-15.
The host Runners earned wins in the No. 2 pair as Ella Erteltova and Vivi Kaelin swept Tia Mendiola and Julia Bazylevych, 21-15, 21-14. The final pair also went to CSUBÂ as Ella Ensign and Katey Milne handed Dylan Hall and Hannah Heflin just their third loss of the season in the No. 3 pair, 21-15, 19-21, 15-12.
"Always a battle against CSUB and I'm glad we were on the winning side of that. We play them at least two more times, not including if we run into them at the Big West Tournament, and it's only going to get harder to beat them. We definitely need to show up on Tuesday locked in and ready to compete. CSUB will absolutely take advantage if we take our foot off the gas, so I'm continuing to find ways to keep the girls motivated. Getting a win definitely makes the drive to Bakersfield worth it!"
