Garcia’s First Career Goal Lifts CSUN Past LMU, 1-0

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Freshman Daniel Garcia scored his first career goal in the 42nd minute as the CSUN men's soccer team (4-0-3) held off Loyola Marymount for a 1-0 victory Thursday night at Matador Soccer Field.
Garcia capitalized on a deflection inside the box, finishing with a one-touch strike into the top of the net off a setup from Zack Harris. The goal stood as the difference as the Matadors remained unbeaten through seven matches this season.
Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks anchored the defense with six saves to record his fifth shutout of the year. CSUN absorbed heavy pressure in the second half, as the Lions outshot the Matadors 10-1 after halftime and finished with a 17-5 advantage in total shots.
Harris led CSUN with two shots, while Jorge Solorzano and Hagan Cupido also created first-half chances. Despite limited looks, the Matadors made their early breakthrough count and protected the lead behind organized defending and timely stops from Drucks.
CSUN held a 51 percent edge in possession and earned five corner kicks to LMU's four. The match featured a physical second half with five yellow cards issued, including one to the Matadors.
NOTES OF THE GAME
" LMU is one of the better teams we have played this year. They are tough, well organized and well coached. Anytime you can get a victory against LMU, it's a good day. Regarding the goal, we put the ball in a good spot for Danny. A great pass from Zack Harris and it was a bang-bang goal. When we score goals it's a collective effort. Same goes for defense. We did a good job of showing pride."
