LAST TIME OUT
Jorge Solorzano and Sebastian Fuentes found the back of the net in the first half as CSUN held on for a 2-1 road victory over Pacific on Sunday night at Knoles Field. In the first half, the game was tight between both sides.
Â
A handball by the Pacific defense led to a penalty kick for Solorzano. The man they call "Solo" calmly netted a shot in the right bottom corner of the net. That shot put the Matadors on top in the 23rd minute, 1-0.Â
Â
The Tigers answered just two minutes later when Jose Maria Barrera slotted in the equalizer off assists from Luca Baltzer and James Andrew.
Â
Fuentes delivered the match-winner in the 40th minute, striking low to the right corner past the diving Ruiz-Hurst to give CSUN a 2-1 edge before halftime.
Â
Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks was key in protecting the one-goal lead. Drucks came up big in the 58th and 67th minutes, denying shots from Pacific's Andrew and Maria Barrera.Â
Â
In the closing stretch, there was more action. Pacific pressed late, earning a handful of free kicks and forcing CSUN to defend deep. Solorzano had one more chance in the 84th minute but fired high. Drucks and the backline held firm against more Tiger attacks as the Matadors saw out the 2-1 win.
Â
Earlier in the week, the Matadors played to a scoreless draw against San Jose State at Spartan Soccer Field.
Â
Siddiq Lezzar, Solorzano and Zion Wagoner each had two shots in the tie. At the time of the result, CSUN had not allowed a goal in its first five matches, the longest streak by a Matador team in the program's Division I era. Overall, CSUN last accomplished the feat in the 1985 when the team played as a Division II program.
Â
With it's third tie, CSUN accomplished its best start to a season since the 2019 season, where the Matadors began the campaign 4-0-1.
