CSUN Begins Big West Play with a 0-0 Draw at Cal State Fullerton
9/21/2025 8:27:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FULLERTON, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road at undefeated Cal State Fullerton in the Big West opener on Sunday evening at Titan Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Riley Liebsack finished with five saves in earning her third shutout of the season while the Matador defense blanked the Titans for just the second time in 2025.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening minutes of the match saw the Titans gain a corner kick and a shot on frame from Sail Bozinovic while CSUN earned shot attempts from Yoshi Rubalcava and Sydney Lipkin. Liebsack was active early in front of the goal, racking up three saves in the first 19-plus minutes of action. Meanwhile, CSUN received three corner kicks in the first half but could not cash in on those opportunities. Cassidy Imperial-Pham would have her shot saved by Isaac Ranson near the end of the first period as each side finished with five shots apiece in the scoreless first half.Â
The second period continued to be a defensive struggle with both squads taking turns squashing scoring chances. Liebsack snuffed a shot from Kayalily Penn in the 54th minute, and moments later, Ranson returned the favor with a save on a Cailey Jackson shot. The final 10 minutes of action saw the game nearly swing to the Titans. On a Fullerton service into the box, the ball would hit Siena Navarra's foot and bounce toward the goal, however, Liebsack made a timely stop at the near post. Moments later in the 84th minute, Paige Califf was whistled for a second yellow card, resulting in the Matadors playing the final six-plus minutes short handed. Down a player, CSUN's defense though was up for the task, withstanding a last second drive from the Titans that was broken up by Jackson inside the box as time expired.Â
NOTES OF THE GAME
ACCORDING TO COACH GINA BREWER
"It was a fantastic effort. We are so proud of the team. We knew this was going to be a tough game and we were up to the challenge and battled for 90 minutes. We are happy they executed the game plan."
