PHOENIX, Ariz.---CSUN Women's Soccer suffered a 3-0 defeat at Grand Canyon on Thursday at GCU Stadium. The Matadors registered a season-high in shots but could not find the back of the net on the night. The Lopes blew open a one-goal lead at halftime with a pair of second-half strikes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lopes would pressure the Matador defense for most of the first half, generating 15 shots in the 45 minutes. Hayden Mauldin made the first of her five saves in the period in the fifth minute while she stopped another a minute later off the foot of Amanda Adams. After the Matador defense blocked away a shot from Ellie Johannes leading to a corner kick, Mauldin turned away another Adams shot. CSUN would have its share of offensive opportunities in the first half, notching three corner kicks, which all came in a two-minute span near the 31st minute. GCU finally broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute, capitalizing on a CSUN turnover to pick up a goal from Caprice Chiuchiolo from inside 12 yards. The Matadors had a late first-half strike from Paige Harris that was saved at the net, as the Matadors went into the break trailing 1-0.

The second period would be tighter in the shot count with GCU holding a 10-7 lead, but the Lopes broke the game open with two more goals. Precise passing led to GCU finding the net in the 59th minute, as Makayla Gwynn tapped in a pass from Ellie Johannes after a drive up the field. The Lopes added to their lead off a corner kick in the 76th minute when Sophia Rubano finished the play off passes from Samantha Amato and Elle Stanley. CSUN earned two corner kicks and shots on frame from Ireland Regan and Alex Valente, but GCU withstood every scoring chance to secure the shutout.

NOTES OF THE GAME

CSUN falls to 1-3 on the season while GCU improves to 3-1.
The Lopes finished with a 25-13 edge in shots and held a 12-8 edge in shots on goal.
In corner kicks, GCU led 7-5.
A total of 15 fouls were called in the match with GCU leading 8-7.

Valente led CSUN in shots with three including two on goal.
