HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beach controlled the opening set early, taking an early 10-6 lead when Bazylevych's attack went long. CSUN put together a late run, rallying to within 19-15 after a Blotzer kill. The Matadors clawed back to withing three at 24-21 following an Iye Okolo kill before the Beach finished the set on a Hope kill.
CSUN dropped seven of the first 10 points to open the second set but fought back behind a 5-1 run to tie the score at 8-8. Long Beach State answered with a 7-2 run to build a 15-10 advantage and later extended its lead to 22-14. CSUN scored four of the next six points, including a service ace by Brockway, but the Beach closed out the set 25-18.
CSUN mounted its strongest challenge in the third set which featured 10 ties. After Long Beach State led 15-13 at the media timeout, the Matadors scored three straight points to take a 16-15 lead. The Beach answered with a 6-2 run to open up a 21-18 cushion before a Bazylevych kill ended the run. CSUN pulled within one at 21-20 on an Audrey Nuckols service ace, but Long Beach State scored the final four points to complete the sweep.
