SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
UC Riverside (4-11, 0-4 Big West) has dropped four Big West matches since defeating Southern Utah to close the non-conference season on Sept. 19. The Highlanders also have wins over New Orleans (3–0), Chicago State (3-0), and Samford (3-1) this season. Since opening the Big West season, UCR has dropped road matches at Utah Valley (3-0) and Sacramento State (3-0) and home decisions to UC Irvine (3-1) and UC San Diego (3-2). Senior OH Andrea Brewer leads UCR, averaging 2.98 kills per set which ranks 11th in the Big West.
Series: Friday's match will be the 91st meeting all-time between the longtime rivals. CSUN holds a 67-23 lead in the series and has won five straight dating back to 2023. The Matadors, who won both meetings in 2025, are 26-10 all-time against the Highlanders in Riverside.
California Baptist (3-12, 0-4 Big West) has dropped five straight matches since defeating Texas Southern on Sept. 18. The Lancers also have wins over New Mexico (3-1) and Seattle (3-1) but have dropped four straight to open their inaugural Big West season. CBU opened conference play with road losses at Sacramento State (3-0) and Utah Valley (3-2) before falling at home to UC San Diego (3-1) and UC Irvine (3-2) last week. Freshman OH Nelanie Neal leads CBU, averaging 3.68 kills per set which ranks sixth in the Big West.
Series: Saturday's match is just the fourth meeting all-time between CSUN and California Baptist with the Matadors holding a slim 2-1 edge in the series. CSUN has won the last two matches, winning at home in both 2024 and 2025. The Lancers claimed a 3-1 win in a neutral site match in San Jose in 2023.
BROCKWAY TAKES OVER BIG WEST KILLS LEAD
With a team-high 183 kills over 46 sets, senior Hailey Brockway has moved to the top of the Big West in kills per set this week. Brockway, who has been CSUN's kills leader in nine of 14 matches this season, comes into the week averaging 3.98 kills per set. Brockway, who also ranks in the Big West top 20 in digs per set (13th) and aces per set (20th), leads the Matadors with six double-doubles this season and has reached double figures in kills 10 times in 13 matches.
BIG WEST BLOCKING LEADERS RANK NINTH IN NCAA

With 1,418 career digs, Sentes remains second in program history and trails first place Cindy Ortiz (1,456) by only 38 digs heading into this week's matches. After becoming just the eighth player in CSUN history with 2,000 career assists, senior Katie Kolar added 61 assists to her career tally in two matches last week.
