NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field's senior thrower Katherine Shipp-Davis earned her first career Big West Field Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.Â

A native of Lake Elsinore, Shipp-Davis posted a pair of top-two finishes this past weekend at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Tune-Up. She would lead the pack in the discus, claiming first place with a mark of 53.06m (174-1), which came on her first attempt. Shipp-Davis also took second place in the shot put at Titan Tune-Up, reaching 14.05m (46-1.25) on her sixth and final throw.Â
Prior to her performance in Fullerton, Shipp-Davis set personal-bests in the discus and shot put at the Steve Scott Invitational (May 1-2). Her new top mark in the discus of 53.66m (176-0) reached fifth place in school history while she would also set a new PR in the shot put of 14.91m (48-11) at the meet.
In the Big West, Shipp-Davis currently ranks second in the discus and fifth in the shot put heading into this week's Big West Championships.Â
Shipp-Davis is the second Matador from the women's team to collect Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors, joining fellow thrower Summer Mosley who won the award on April 21. On the men's side, CSUN's Kyriaun Davis also picked up Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors just last week on May 5.Â
The CSUN Track & Field teams head to Long Beach State this weekend to compete at the 2026 Big West Track & Field Championships. The two-day meet will be held at Jack Rose Track from May 15-16.Â
