CSUN Drops Game Two to Hawai'i
5/15/2026 12:50:00 AM | Baseball
HONOLULU---CSUNÂ Baseball fell by a score of 7-0 to Hawai'i on Thursday at Les Murakami Stadium. The Matador collected seven hits on the night but were blanked for the second time by the Rainbow Warriors. Freshmen Vaughn Coleman and Mateo Rickman had two hits each for the Matadors.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the second inning, the Rainbow Warriors collected a leadoff solo homer from Josh Martin while Elijah Ickes came away with a two-out RBI triple to plate Noah Rodriguez, giving Hawai'i an early 2-0 edge.Â
The lead doubled in the fourth inning as Hawai'i took advantage of a pair of hit batsman to get two runners on the base paths. Rodriguez and Ickes followed with RBI hits for a four-run advantage.Â
Â
CSUN's offense would be held at bay throughout the night against tough Hawai'i pitching. The Matadors would threaten in the fourth inning behind a Matthew Thomas hit by pitch and a Rickman single with two outs. However, Hekili Robello struck out Colton Boardman to end the frame.
After Robello exited through five innings, reliever John Alkire II retired nine of 10 Matador hitters while striking out four batters.Â
Zach Johnson worked three innings out of the bullpen for the Matadors, blanking the Rainbow Warriors in the fifth and sixth innings. Hawai'i though broke the game open in the seventh inning, once again taking advantage of Matador free passes. A hit batsman and a walk set up the scoring chance as Martin picked up an RBI double. After Jake Redding drove in another run on a groundout, Draven Nushida capped of a three-run inning with an RBI single.
Â
CSUN forged one last rally in the ninth inning, picking up two-out hits from Rickman and Daniel Behrmann, but the Matadors would be denied runs when Trent Abel flew out to end the game.Â
