The team began the season 18-3, recording its best start in 20 seasons. With 11 conference wins, CSUN also picked up its most victories against conference foes since 2013. During the season, the Matadors earned victories against NCAA Tournament teams Long Beach State, William & Mary (2) and UConn (2). They also earned their first season sweep of UCLA since 1998 and their first series sweep of Cal Poly since 2008. Branden Berry earned a Big West Conference Honorable Mention following the campaign. A total of three Matadors were selected in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft including Kenny Rosenberg (8th round, Tampa Bay), Conner O'Neil (32nd round, Detroit) and Berry (33rd round, Miami).

The pitching staff combined to hold opponents to a 2.61 ERA during the 2015 season. Also eight different pitchers on the staff posted an ERA under 3.20. Three Matadors earned all-conference honors including William Colantono, Conner O'Neil and Angel Rodriguez. Two Matador pitchers were selected in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft including Jerry Keel (9th round, San Diego) and Calvin Copping (25th round, Washington).
The Matadors went 18-38 in Moore's first season with the team. Following the campaign, Brett Balkan earned a Big West Conference Honorable Mention. Also, right-hander Jordan Johnson was selected in the 23rd round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Since 2014, Moore has served as a member of the coaching staff for USA Baseball's U-18 National Team. He served as an assistant for the Tournament of the Stars and National Team Trials in 2014 before becoming the team's pitching coach in 2015.
Following the 2015 CSUN Baseball season, Moore served as pitching coach for Team USA's U-18 National Team over the summer. USA would go on to win a gold medal in Osaka, Japan, defeating host Japan in the championship game. Moore's pitching staff posted a 2.19 ERA in 115 innings of international competition.
In 2016, Moore returned to the team for the Tournament of the Stars in June and he will resume his pitching coach duties for the National Team Trails in September before heading to Monterrey, Mexico for the COPABE Pan-American "AAA" Championships.
Greg Moore, was previously named by Baseball America as one of the Top 10 Assistant Coaches in College Baseball, was hired as the head coach at CSUN on June 21, 2013.
Moore spent the previous three seasons as the associate head coach at the University of San Francisco, where he oversaw pitching, academics, community service and summer placement.
While at USF, Moore coached three first-round draft picks and eight players taken in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft. Of the eight players, only one had been previously drafted out of high school and three were walk-ons. In addition, Moore helped USF achieve numerous accomplishments both on the field and off. Before his arrival, the Dons had never competed in an NCAA Regional. During his tenure, USF reached the NCAA Tournament three times, including twice in the past three seasons.
Moore began his collegiate coaching career at USF in 2002 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Dons. In that role, Moore developed Diamond University, a life skills training program for student-athletes that is in progress today at CSUN. He served in that capacity until 2009, when he took a position as the pitching coach at the University of Washington for one season before heading back to his alma mater.
Three members of his pitching staff were drafted in 2012 and under his leadership the team achieved a program best 3.24 GPA last fall. In 2005, the USF pitching staff had a conference-best 2.86 ERA, ranking 6th nationally. Opponents hit just .234.
Moore played collegiate baseball for the University of San Francisco and was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team in 2001. As a player, he won the team's "Most Inspirational" award in back-to-back seasons and the award now bears his name.
