2017 (SENIOR): Finished 53rd at the Big West Championships (26:25.70, 8k)…was 20th during the Mustang Challenge (26:13.60, 4.8m)…placed 72nd (26:05.10, 8k).
PRIOR TO CSUN: Atwell spent three seasons (2014-17) competing for the cross country and track teams at NCAA Division II California Baptist...Atwell’s Lancers won cross country Pac West Championships in 2015 and 2016...ran the 800 and 1,500 meters for coach Ben Gall and the Cal Baptist track team...his top 8k time was 25:20.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2013 graduate of Riverside Poly High School: Atwell competed in both cross country and track at Riverside Poly High School...the Bears won the league cross country championship in 2012 and a track & field championship in 2013...competed in the 800 meters, long jump, triple jump and 4x400 relay...graduated with a 3.2 grade point average.
PERSONAL: Born Aug. 9, 1995...son of Laura and Ronald Atwell...has three brothers, David, Daniel and Michael and one sister, Gabby...favorites include the Los Angeles Dodgers, USC football, actor Shia LaBeouf, the TV show "SpongeBob Square Pants" and the movies "Castle in the Sky", "Toy Story" and "On The Waterfront"...says the best thing about being an athlete is "friends, travel, free food and doing well"...major is Film Studies/Screenwriting.
