2017 (SENIOR): Entered three meets for the Matadors…finished 51st at the Big West Championship in a time of 26:25.60…ran the 6k at the UC Riverside Invitational on Oct. in a time of 19:25.90 to come in 63rd…placed 12th at the Pepperdine Invitational by running a time of 16:18.33…named Academic All-Conference.
2016 (JUNIOR): Competed in all seven of CSUN's meets...finished a season-best 31st at the UCR Highlander Invitational in a 6k time of 18:58.44...top 8k time of the season was 26:15.8 at the San Francisco Invitational where he placed 60th...finished 45th at the Big West Championship (26:59.0) and was 170th at the NCAA West Regional (33:36.20)...was one of four Matador runners named to the Big West All-Academic Team.
2015 (SOPHOMORE): Competed in six of CSUN's seven meets…finished a CSUN season-best third at the season-opening Pepperdine Invitational in a time of 15:52.25…was also the Matadors' top finisher at the San Francisco Invitational (19th) in 26:01.00…finished 52nd at the Big West Championship (26:41.67) and 197th at the NCAA West Regional in Seattle, Wash. (36:12.20)…was one of five Matador runners named to the Big West All-Academic Team.
2014 (FRESHMAN): Finished 62nd at the Big West Championship after posting a time of 27:27.50…finished 47th at the Highlander Invitational (Oct. 18) in 19:27.9 and was 55th at the season-opening San Francisco Invitational (Aug. 30) in a time of 27:40.8.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2014 graduate of San Pedro High School...earned first team All-City as well as South Bay second team honors for the Pirates cross country team...was also given the teams' Clutch Performance Award as a sophomore in addition to Most Dedicated as a junior...his cross-country team were LA City champions in 2014.
PERSONAL: Born Oct. 6, 1995 in Mexico...parents are Manuela Rojas and Juan Vargas...has one younger sister, Camila...favorites include the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Lakers, Olympic distance runner Mo Farah, actors Will Smith and Scarlett Johansson, the TV show "How I Met Your Mother" and the movie "4 Minute Mile"...cheeseburgers and the music of Queen and Billy Joel...says the best thing about being an athlete is "being able to push your body to the limits."
