- Email:
Gina Brewer enters her third season leading the CSUN Women's Soccer program in 2026-27. Brewer is the seventh head coach in Matador history.
In just a two-year span, Brewer has helped turn around the CSUN Women's Soccer team, guiding a program from last place before her arrival to first place in just her second season. Brewer would be honored for her efforts in 2025, receiving Big West Coach of the Year honors.
The 2025 season would be a banner year for the program where CSUN won the Big West regular season championship for the first time in nine seasons and for the second time overall. Picked to finish in ninth place before the season, the Matadors would go 6-1-3 in Big West play and earn the No. 1 seed in the Big West Championship, returning to the conference tournament for the first time in six years. CSUN also notched its first winning season since 2019, finishing 8-7-5 overall with a three-win improvement over the year before.
Brewers' Matadors boasted one of the top defenses in the Big West in 2025, recording seven shutouts and a 0.40 goals-against-average in conference play. CSUN would set a new school record with seven straight shutouts to open Big West play while the team allowed four total goals against conference teams -- the second fewest in school history. Overall, CSUN posted a season 0.79 goals-againist average with nine total shutouts.
In her first year on the sidelines in 2024, Brewer helped lead CSUN to a four-win improvement and to a seventh-place finish in the Big West standings after the team was predicted to finish last by the conference's head coaches. The Matadors played for a postseason spot until the final day of the regular season, ultimately finishing 3-4-3 in Big West play.
Under Brewer, 10 Matadors have earned All-Big West honors in her two seasons, highlighted by two first-team selections in 2025.
Brewer joined CSUN after spending the 2023 season as an assistant coach at UCLA. In her one season with the Bruins, Brewer helped guide UCLA to the Pac-12 Championship and a 16-2-1 record.
Brewer was a volunteer assistant coach at Santa Clara in 2022, helping guide the Broncos to the NCAA second round. She was also on staff in 2021 as a video analyst for the NCAA semifinalist Broncos. During her time with Santa Clara, the Broncos won back-to-back West Coast Conference championships.
Prior to her time at Santa Clara, she spent a year and a half as an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount.
From 2011-19, she was the head coach at Hawaii Pacific University, where she served as the longest-tenured coach in program history. Brewer coached the Sharks to a 71-67-20 record in her nine seasons, highlighted by a pair of double-digit win campaigns. Over her time as head coach of Hawaii Pacific, the Sharks had 26 all-conference selections as well as a Player of the Year honoree and two all-region players.
Brewer also had coaching stints at the University of Hawai'i (2008-10) and Utah State (2006-07) and was a graduate assistant at the University of Idaho from 2003-05.
Brewer played collegiately at the University of Washington from 1998-2001, helping lead the Huskies to a Pac-10 Championship and NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 2000. Her Husky teams played in the NCAA Tournament three times in her career.
A Seattle native, Brewer earned her Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a minor in communications from the University of Washington in 2002. She also received a Master of Education in physical education and health from the University of Idaho in 2005.
Brewer is currently the Olympic Development Program "ODP" West Region Girls Technical Advisor, as well as a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator for the National B and C coaching licenses. She is also a U.S. Soccer Youth National Team Scout and currently holds her USSF "A" Coaching License.
