Jodie Cox enters her first season as an assistant coach and pitching coach to the CSUN Softball team in 2024-25.
Cox brings to CSUN extensive coaching experience with time spent in the Division I, Division III and high school ranks. She also previously served as a Matador assistant coach early in her coaching career from 2005-07.
Cox joins CSUN after serving as varsity assistant coach at Clovis East High School from 2022-24. She previously completed a successful five-year stint at Fresno State from 2017-21, where she worked as the assistant coach along with a stint as interim head coach.
With Fresno State, Cox helped coach the Bulldogs to an impressive 161-82 record including four 30-plus win campaigns and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. In her final season with Fresno State, Cox served as interim head coach and guided Fresno State to a Mountain West championship along with a trip to the NCAA Tournament. She mentored pitcher Hailey Dolcini to Mountain West Pitcher of the Year and All-America honors after she posted a 22-5 record and 1.12 ERA. Cox's staff also limited the opposition to a .225 batting average in 2021.
In 2020, Cox helped lead Fresno State to a No. 23 national ranking and a 21-4 record in a shortened season. Bulldog pitching was especially impressive that season, owning a 2.67 ERA. Cox also coached Fresno State to a National Invitational Softball Championship trip in 2019 as the team went 37-20 overall while the Bulldogs also earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament in her first season with the team in 2017.
Prior to Fresno State, Cox spent four seasons on the coaching staff at UC Riverside from 2012-16. After serving as an assistant coach in her first three seasons, she was elevated to associate head coach in 2016. Cox was the primary pitching instructor and mentored two 20-game winners as well as the national save leader and Co-Big West Pitcher of the Year in her tenure. In 2015, Cox helped UCR rank 14th nationally in ERA at 2.13, which included the program's first no-hitter.
Cox also spent five years as the head coach at Division III Occidental College in Los Angeles (2007-12), where she took over a program that won three games prior to her arrival and led the team to tying a school record in wins in 2009 before eventually breaking that record in 2011.
Prior to Occidental, Cox spent two seasons with CSUN from 2005-07, as an assistant coach under head coach Babara Jordan. CSUN would improve its win total in each season Cox spent in Northridge, highlighted by a 23-win season in 2007 and an NCAA Tournament berth that year.
Cox spent one season with Syracuse from 2004-05, helping the program to a winning record that season and a staff ERA of 2.24. Cox was also a member of the 2005 Big East Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Cox began her coaching career in 2004 as an undergraduate assistant at Cal State Fullerton prior to graduating with a degree in Kinesiology.
As a student-athlete, Cox was a four-year starter at Cal State Fullerton from 2000-03, where she helped the Titans to four consecutive Big West titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. She earned NFCA All-America Third Team accolades as a senior along with four consecutive All-Big West selections including three first-team honors and two All-West Region First Team awards in her career.
Cox went 21-7 with a 1.06 ERA and 224 strikeouts in the circle in 2003 as she held opponents to a .125 batting average en route to collecting Co-Big West Pitcher of the Year accolades. In her four seasons with the Titans, Cox was 75-22 with a 1.42 ERA and 699 strikeouts. At the time of her graduation, she was three strikeouts short of the school record at Fullerton while she ranked among the top 10 in 10 different pitching categories. She tossed seven career no-hitters with the Titans along with a perfect game in 2001. At the plate, she also batted .298 with 21 homers and 110 RBI.
After her days at Fullerton, Cox played in the Women's Softball Professional Softball League for four years. She was an NPF All-Star in 2005 where she posted a 2.07 ERA, 12 wins and a .261 batting average. Cox was also a member of the 2003 USA Elite National Team, which won the Canada Cup that year. She collected MVP of the tournament after going 3-0 with a spotless 0.00 ERA in 19 innings.
Cox is married to Gary Petrosian and has two stepsons, Cole and Parker.
