CSUN Tennis Pulls Out 7-0 Sweep over Texas State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (9-7) swept Texas State, 7-0, in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. CSUN did not drop a set in singles or doubles on the day in downing the Bobcats.
Playing their third home match in a streak where they'll play 12 of 13 in the San Fernando Valley, the Matadors dominated the Bobcats on the hard court. With the win, Northridge improved to 6-3 in dual matches at Matador Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, CSUN jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after sweeping the three matches. Brooke Doane and Jennifer Sher took their top-seeded doubles draw, 8-2.
Then, at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Matadors posted identical 8-4 victories. Maria Pistalu and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing played at the second draw and Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang carried the third draw for head coach Gary Victor.
In singles action, Sher posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 draw. Doane snapped a lengthy skid with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 draw. Finally, to round out the top of the singles draw, Sirojiddinova won 6-4 and 6-2.
At the bottom of the bracket, CSUN kept up its blistering play. Pistalu won 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth draw. Lorraine Cheung then picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the fifth draw. Finally, Ryma Korab did not lose a game in winning 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth-seeded match.
The Matadors hope to keep up the fine play in their next match, a Mar. 18 meeting with Columbia of the Ivy League. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. On Mar. 19, CSUN stays within the Ivy League for its next foe, a 12:30 p.m. contest against the Big Green of Dartmouth.
