CSUN Posts Exhibition Victory over The Master's College

The preseason pick to defend their Big West title, the Matadors fired on all cylinders Friday evening. CSUN led 32-2 midway through the first half and the lead swelled to as much as 41 in the second half.Â
The Matadors shot 50.8 percent (32-of-63) for the game and 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from 3-point range. CSUN finished with 20 assists on 32 field goals and had 11 offensive rebounds and 12 steals in the contest.Â
All but one CSUN player recorded a field goal in the victory. The Matadors posted 17 fastbreak points and had eight second-chance points as well.Â
Lister knocked down four 3-pointers and had six field goals in 20 minutes of action. Junior Jasmine Johnson came off the bench to finish with 14 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.Â
CSUN senior Ashlee Guay, the 2014 Big West Player of the Year, had 12 points, three assists and three rebounds in 13 minutes. Although it was unofficial, Caroline Gilling impressed those in attendance with 11 points and three 3-pointers in her Matador debut.
In addition to Gilling, several other Matadors made their unofficial debut Friday. Tessa Boagni finished with six points, a team-high seven rebounds and four assists in 23 minutes. Tiarah Umu scored two points in four minutes as well.
Junior Travis Newman added three points in 19 minutes in her first action on the floor after sitting out the 2013-14 season.Â
Olivia Thompson led the Mustangs with 12 points. The Master's College shot 34 percent (16-of-47) from the field.Â
The Matadors officially open the season on Friday, Nov. 14 with a home contest against Idaho. Tip off from The Matadome is slated for 2 p.m.Â
