CSUN, Hawai'i Play to Scoreless Draw on Senior Day

The CSUN women's soccer team (7-10-2, 4-3-1 Big West) played to a 0-0 draw with Hawai'i Sunday afternoon at Matador Soccer Field in both squads' Big West Conference finale. Sophomore Jovani McCaskill made a career-high nine saves as the Matadors wrapped up the fourth seed in the upcoming Big West Tournament.
At 4-3-1 in the Big West standings, CSUN finished with 13 points and earned the fourth seed in the Big West Tournament. The Matadors will face Cal State Fullerton, who won the league's regular season title Sunday, on Thursday, Nov. 6 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on the campus of Cal Poly.
The Big West Conference later announced Sunday that CSUN and Cal State Fullerton at 5 p.m., followed by Cal Poly and Long Beach State at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Sunday's contest was a spirited affair between the Matadors and Rainbow Wahine. Hawai'i held an 18-12 advantage in shots and also had eight corner kicks. In regulation, McCaskill had to push a Hawai'i shot over the crossbar, including a diving stop with about a minute left on the clock.
Still, she and the defense in front of her held firm for the entire 110 minutes. McCaskill is now 5-5-1 with a 0.78 goals-against average, 53 saves and an .855 save percentage for the season. The shutout was McCaskill's fifth of the year.
Offensively, Leandra Wakler and Lyndsey Preston each had three shots to lead CSUN. Kendall Moskal, Kiley Norkus, Walker and Preston each had a shot on goal.
The contest was also fairly physical, with the team combining for 29 fouls. Taylor Hobson, Tabatha Dickson and Kourtney Kutscher all saw the yellow card for the Matadors.
Before the match, CSUN honored its five senior participating in their final match at Matador Soccer Field: Rachel Webb, Hannah Wissler, Brittanie Sakajian, Melissa Lopez and Walker.
CSUN lost 1-0 at home to Cal State Fullerton earlier this year, surrendering a second-half penalty. The last time the two programs met on a neutral field, CSUN took a 1-0 victory to win the 2012 Big West Conference Tournament.
