12/6/2014 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Coming off their first loss of the 2014-15 season, the Matadors looked resolved not to make it two in a row Saturday against the visiting Waves. Pepperdine made the first basket of the game at 19:46 and then had to wait until 12:23 left in the half to get its next field goal.
During that time, CSUN broke out to a 13-5 lead and extended the advantage to as much as 20 (twice) before heading into halftime with a 38-24 advantage. Lister had 15 in the first half, including three 3-pointers.
In the second half, Pepperdine fought back and closed to within 10 (43-33) with 16:05 left in the game. From there, the Matadors unloaded on a 26-6 run that put the game away for good.
Lister tied a CSUN career high with 10 field goals and had five rebounds in 27 minutes of action. She knocked down four 3-pointers for the second-straight game and now has 108 in her time in a Matador uniform, the sixth-most in program history.
Sharpe had an efficient game for the Matadors, going 5-of-8 from the field with two 3-pointers to finish with 15 points. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 27 minutes.
Boagni was the third Matador in double-figures, scoring 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Camille Mahlknecht led all players with 10 rebounds, the 26th double-figure rebounding game of her career.
Ashlee Guay also had a nice all-around game for CSUN. She finished with nine points, a season-high nine rebounds and a game-high six assists.
In all, CSUN shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field compared to 29.3 percent (17-of-58) for Pepperdine. The Matadors controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Waves 49-29. Both teams had 10 points off turnovers, but CSUN had a 24-16 advantage in points in the paint.
"For the majority of the game, I thought our kids did a good job of executing what we wanted to do on both ends of the floor," CSUN head coach Jason Flowers said. "Tonight was a complete team effort. The exciting thing is we still have a lot to work on, but we were a lot better tonight than we were in our last outing."
The win was CSUN's first against Pepperdine since Nov. 20, 1999 and snapped an eight-game Wave winning streak in the all-time series.
The Matadors return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9 with a road game at USC. Tip off from Galen Center is slated for 6 p.m.
