CSUN Posts Fifth Straight Win with Sweep of Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (11-6) defeated Stanislaus State 7-0 Monday afternoon. The Matadors did not drop a set in defeating the Warriors and posting their fifth-straight win.
The Matadors have been playing some of their best tennis during this current streak. Included in the streak are a pair of 4-3 victories and now two 7-0 sweeps. Monday was Cal State Stanislaus' turn to take on CSUN.
In doubles play, CSUN head coach Gary Victor swapped the line-ups and put the team of Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei at the No. 1 draw. The change in seed did little to affect the freshmen tandem, who improved to 14-1 in doubles action with an 8-2 victory.
Criss Rodriguez and Vivian Lin assumed the No. 2 responsibilities and cruised to an 8-2 victory to improve to 9-7 on the season. Finally, the No. 3 team of Lorraine Cheung and Scout Shutter posted an 8-1 victory to conclude the doubles action.
In singles action, Lin lost just one game in winning in straight sets in the No. 1 draw. Hsu captured the No. 2 contest by losing only two games. Similarly, Rodriguez lost just two games in winning the third singles match.
For the season, Lin is 11-6, Hsu is 9-7 and Rodriguez is 8-5. Lin and Hsu have won four-straight singles decisions while Rodriguez has been victorious in five of her last six singles draws.
Further down the line-up saw repeated success for CSUN Monday. Poei won the No. 4 draw 6-2 and 6-1 to improve to 9-6 on the year. Cheung won at No. 5 without losing a game and is now 11-4 on the year. Finally, Jessica Warren also won in straight sets without losing a game in the No. 6 draw to improve to 4-5 on the year.
The Matadors continue their tour of Northern California Tuesday, April 8 with a Big West match at UC Davis. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
