
Nelson Continues to Impress, Finishes 10th at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. -Â CSUN's Elizabeth Nelson continues her remarkable cross country season as she finished in the top-10 Saturday at the prestigious Stanford Invitational.
Nelson, who has a pair of wins along with a four-place showing, ran 21:11 on the Stanford Invitational 6k course which was good for 10th-place among 330 runners in the field. Nelson, who ran a 6k season-best 21:03.03 at UC Riverside on Sept. 13, clocked a time of 21:11 which was fourth-fastest among all Big West runners who competed.
Also for CSUN, Megan Magdaleno finished 111th in a time of 23:03, Jocelyne Ferrufino finished 161st in 23:31, Rachael Duriez finished 186th in 23:44, Kimberly Newton finished 200th in 23:54, Lupita Fausto finished 294th in 25:49, Crystal Raygoza finished 304th in 26:04 and Kristen Tapia was 306th in 26:08.
As a team, the Matadors finished 14th among 21 teams with a total of 387 points and an average time of 23:05.
In the men's 8k race, Angel Alcantar led CSUN with a 135th place finish in a time of 25:57. Also for the Matador men, who finished 16th as a team, Geofry Sarco was 193rd (25:53), Charlie Nettle was 194th (25:53), Jackson Higgins was 250th (26:34), Manuel Vargas was 251st (26:34), Martin Santillan was 268th (26:43), Luis Chavez was 306th (27:16) and Dylan Haerle was 309th (27:20).
The CSUN men compiled 460 points.
The Matadors compete in their second-to-last team meet of the season Saturday, Oct. 18 at UC Riverside's Highlander Invitational. The Big West Cross Country Championship is scheduled for Nov. 1.
