NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team carded an opening round 301 which was good for fourth Saturday at the Lady Mustang Intercollegiate at Cypress Ridge G.C. in Arroyo Grande.
Santa Clara (298) leads the team race with host Cal Poly (299) one shot back. UC Riverside (300) is third with both the Matadors and Southern Utah three shots back in fourth. A total of 11 teams are competing in the tournament.
CSUN freshmen Ysabel Tran and Cake Phuchanbanchob are both in the thick of the individal chase as the two players share third place. Both players finished at even-par 72 and are just one shot off the pace set by UC Riverside's Hannah Facchini and Montana State's Clare Dittemore.
Phuchanbanchob took a two-shot penalty for an incorrect drop or the Matador freshman would most likely be leading the field heading into Sunday's final round. Tran tied Dittemore for the most birdies in round one with five.
Just outside the top 20 are Rebecca Bostrom and Cesilie Hagen who are 29th and 34th respectively. Bostrom opened with a six-over 78 while Hagen finished round one at seven-over 79.
Julie Ward is tied for 51st at 12-over 84 while Shenna DeLeon, competing as an individual, is tied for 54th at 13-over 85.
The 71-player field tees off the final round Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
