
No. 11 CSUN Wins Two at UCSD Triton Invitational

The 11th-ranked CSUN Matadors won a pair of matches on Saturday at the UCSD Triton Invitational, edging No. 16 UC Davis 10-8 before cruising past Hartwick 10-2. With the victories, the Matadors advanced to Sunday's morning semifinal round against No. 3 USC and will either play in the third-place match or the championship later in the afternoon.

Marisa Young scored four goals and Katie Kammer had a hat trick of her own as the No. 11 CSUN Matadors (5-3) defeated the No. 16 UC Davis Aggies (2-5) 10-8 in the opening round of the UCSD Triton Invitational on Saturday. The Matadors outscored the Aggies 5-4 in both halves to advance to the winner's bracket.
A balanced game for both sides resulted in a 3-3 tie after the first quarter. The CSUN defense held UC Davis to a single goal in the second and third frames as the Matadors opened up an 8-5 lead going into the final eight minutes. Kiernan Davis made eight saves in goal to help preserve the fourth consecutive victory for CSUN.
In addition to Young and Kammer, the Matadors saw goals from Kelcie Ferreira, Kelcy Barott and MacKenzy Fowler. Fowler and Madeline Sanchez each had a pair of assists in the match as well.

Hartwick Recap
The Matadors followed up their first win of the day with another, dispatching the Hartwick Hawks (2-6) 10-2 to improve to 6-3 on the year. Kelcie Ferreira, Taitum Herrington and Madeline Sanchez each scored twice for CSUN, which won its fifth consecutive match.
CSUN once again scored three goals in the opening frame and doubled their effort to lead 6-2 at halftime. Staunch defense shut out the Hawks the rest of the way as four unanswered goals in the second half gave the Matadors the match.
Kelcy Barott added three assists to one goal while Marisa Young had a goal, a steal and three field blocks. Sanchez's two goals were accompanied by three steals.
