KANE'OHE, O'ahu - A final round 316 on Tuesday kept the CSUN women's golf team in 11th place at the conclusion of the 54-hole Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
The Matadors completed the tournament with team rounds of 307-315-316 for a two day total of 74 over-par 938. CSUN was just three strokes away from posting its fifth top 10 finish of the season as UTEP (935) finished just ahead of the Matadors. Oklahoma State led from start to finish in the 15-team field as the Cowgirls (-2, 862) won by eight shots.
"It was a bit rough for us this week," said CSUN head coach Gina Umeck. "We are learning how to manage the tough days, however. An important lesson is learning the etiquette of playing poorly. Anyone can smile on the good days, a team that keeps it together when it gets rough, that speaks volumes."
Senior Elisabeth Haavardsholm just missed posting her fourth top-20 finish of the season as she led CSUN by tying for 21st place. Haavardsholm posted her second round of three-over 75 on Tuesday to finish at 10-over 226 (75-76-75).
"I want to recognize the great leadership from Elisabeth this week," added Umeck. "She's an excellent player and I couldn't be more proud of her as an individual and as an athlete."
Rebecca Bostrom, who began the day tied with Haavardsholm in 24th place, slipped into a tie for 39th following a final round of 10-over 82. Bostrom wound up posting rounds of 75-76-82 for a three round score of 17-over 233.
Also for CSUN, Arinda Bhanaraksa finished in a tie for 61st at 24-over 240 following rounds of 79-82-79, Cesilie Hagen placed 71st at 30-over 246 after posting rounds of 78-84-84 and Sharon Shin finished tied for 72nd at 31-over 247 following rounds of 86-81-80.
Marijosse Navarro of Texas A&M overcame a trio of Oklahoma State players to win individual medalist honors with a three round score of three-under 213.
The Matadors play their final tournament before the Big West Championship (Apr. 19-21) next Monday and Tuesday as CSUN travels to Sacramento for the Sacramento State Invitational at Sierra View Country Club.
