CSUN Edged 4-3 by UC Santa Barbara in Big West Action

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (9-1, 3-1 Big West) suffered its first loss of the 2015 season, falling 4-3 to UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference Match at Matador Tennis Complex. The visiting Gauchos took the doubles point and the top three singles contests to defeat the Matadors.Â
"Give UC Santa Barbara credit for playing a tough match in very windy conditions," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We started slowly in doubles and competed well in singles; Criss, Kristen and Jessica are a force at 4-6. It was just that today, UCSB played extremely well at the top of the draw."Â
Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei suffered their first loss of the season in doubles action, falling 8-5. Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim fell 8-2 in the top draw to give the Gauchos the early advantage.Â
In singles, Criss Rodriguez, Poei and Jessica Warren all won to tie the match at 3-3. All three won in straight sets. Unfortunately, UCSB's Melissa Baker defeated Kim in straight sets to give UCSB the win over the Matadors.Â
CSUN returns to action on St. Patrick's Day, Tuesday, Mar. 17, with a 2 p.m. home contest against Towson.
