CSUN Rebounds with 6-1 Victory Over Towson

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---The CSUN women's tennis team (10-1) defeated Towson University 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. The Matadors won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches to defeat the Tigers.
Coming off their first loss of the season, a tight 4-3 decision to UC Santa Barbara, the Matadors rebounded sharply Tuesday. CSUN mixed up its doubles teams and took the opening point of the match by winning two of the three draws.
Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei, a pair of sophomores who earned Second Team All-Big West honors as freshmen, won 8-3 in the top doubles contest on Jim Gorman Court. The pair improved to 10-1 on the season and 27-4 in their time at CSUN.
CSUN also won the third doubles draw as Vivian Lin and Mari Taslagyan teamed up for the first time to post an 8-5 victory to give CSUN the point.
In singles, CSUN won the second-fifth draws to improve to 10-1 on the season. Kiryang Kim won in three sets in the third draw and the three other Matadors, including senior Criss Rodriguez, won in straight sets.
"We were without Jessica Warren today, so we were especially proud of Mari for stepping in so well. It is tremendous for our team to be so deep. Not only in case of injuries, but to push each other at practice," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We are looking forward to two good practices before facing Wyoming."
The Matadors return to action on Friday, Mar. 20 with a home match against Wyoming at 2 p.m.
