Game One Recap
CSUN freshman Zoe Conley (12-4) allowed only three hits in a complete game shutout of Cal Poly in the series opener. Conley added five strikeouts and no walks to record her sixth complete game and shutout of the season.
Conley allowed singles in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and worked around four Matador errors in the victory. She is now 12-4 with a 1.39 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 90.2 innings of work this season.Â
Offensively, Taylor Glover and Katie Hooper teamed up for all three Matador runs. Glover led off the fourth inning with her eighth double of the season. She then stole third and scored on Hooper's sacrifice bunt.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Glover walked and stole second with one out. That brought up Hooper, who launched her team-leading 11th home run of the season off Cal Poly's Sierra Hyland to give the Matadors some insurance.
At 11 home runs, Hooper is tied with three other players for seventh in school history for a single season. Glover finished the day with three steals and raised her season total to 24, the fourth-most in school history for a single season.Â
Savannah Horvath and Maylynn Mitchell each added base hits for the Matadors, who were victorious despite 12 strikeouts by Hyland.Â
Game Two Recap
CSUN senior Brianna Elder (11-3) allowed one run and two hits in a complete-game performance to help lift CSUN to the doubleheader sweep.Â
A solo home run in the top of the fourth inning was all the Cal Poly offense could muster against Elder. Otherwise, the senior hurler worked around three walks and added two strikeouts to record her 11th win of the season.Â
For the year, Elder is 11-3 with 125 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA in 109.1 innings of work.
The Matadors scored a run in the first inning to take a quick lead. Taylor Glover scored on an RBI double from Savannah Horvath.
After Sierra Hyland tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run, Glover answered with her own solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. The deep fly was her fifth of the season and gave the Matadors a 2-1 lead.Â
In the sixth, CSUN added an insurance run as Maylynn Mitchell doubled home Aliyah Ricks, who was running for Daphne Pofek after the sophomore doubled with one out.Â
Glover, Mitchell and Madison Fleming all had two hits in the victory. Taylor Nate, Glover and Hooper each had a stolen base in the win.Â
The Matadors will look for the series sweep Sunday when they host the Mustangs in a single game at Matador Diamond. First pitch is slated for noon.Â
