CSUN Falls 7-0 At Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (11-3) lost 7-0 to Long Beach State Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference match at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The Matadors put together a competitive effort against the league's perennial leader, but ran into a 49ers squad playing some outstanding tennis.Â
"They showed today why they are the best team in the Big West Conference," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We can find several positives today in that we competed well in doubles. Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei were outstanding and Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim showed heart in coming back from a slow start."Â
Sophomores Hsu and Poei improved to 12-2 on the season with their 8-6 victory in the top doubles draw. The duo is 4-1 against the Big West season and own a career record of 29-5 as a doubles team.
The other two doubles teams suffered tough losses. Lin and Kim lost 8-6 in the second draw while Jessica Warren and Criss Rodriguez lost 8-4 in the third match.Â
Poei was the only Matador to force a decisive third set, but she ultimately lost that fifth draw. The 49ers won in straight sets in the other five singles matches.Â
"I thought we competed well in singles, but Long Beach was strong across the board," Victor added.Â
CSUN will look to rebound in its next match, an April 6 contest at UC San Diego. The following day, April 7, CSUN will take on San Diego State.Â
