No. 64 CSUN Opens Roadtrip With 7-0 Victory At UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- The No. 64 CSUN women's tennis team (12-3) defeated UC San Diego 7-0. Senior Corinne Schnyder and sophomores Vivian Lin and Mickey Hsu rallied from down a set to claim singles victories as the Matadors started a three-match roadtrip.
The victory over Dartmouth on Mar. 25 got the Matadors noticed on a national level and CSUN currently checks in at No. 64 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. There are over 300 Division I women's tennis programs throughout the nation.
In the No. 1 singles match, Lin came back from a 6-0 defeat in the opening set to win in three sets: 0-6, 7-6, 10-4. Schnyder equaled that comeback performance with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory in the sixth draw.
"Both Vivian and Corinne exhibited great character with their performances today," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "Corinne has been an exemplary student-athlete throughout her career and today was one of her guttiest victories."
In doubles, the Matadors jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage by sweeping the three matches. Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu won 8-3 in the top draw to record their 30th career victory as a doubles tandem. They are 30-5 in two seasons.
In the second draw, Lin and Kiryang Kim posted an 8-5 victory. Jessica Warren and Criss Rodriguez also scored an 8-5 victory in the third draw.
Other highlights from singles action saw Hsu also rally for a three-set victory in the second draw. Kim, Rodriguez and Mari Taslagyan all won in straight sets.
The Matadors resume action Tuesday with a contest at San Diego State.
