Ricks set a new career high with the four hits, all of which were singles, and two stolen bases. She raised her season average to a blistering .769 (10-13) and has scored eight runs with four stolen bases.Â
She scored CSUN's first run on Glover's fourth double of the season in the third inning. Glover added her 18th stolen base of the year, leaving her two short of establishing a new single-season program record for its Division I era.Â
Washington tied the game with a solo home run off CSUN starter Brianna Elder (7-3) in the fourth inning. The Huskies tacked on three runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Elder allowed six hits and three earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. She added six strikeouts and is now 7-3 with a 2.35 ERA in 74.1 innings of work.Â
Zoe Conley recorded the final two outs of the sixth.Â
The Matadors tried to mount a rally in the seventh. Kaitlin Toerner, Ricks and Glover all singled to load the bases with no outs. Katie Hooper then drove a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Toerner and cut the deficit in half.Â
However, the next at-bat saw a fly out with Ricks tagged out at the plate.
At 17-8, the Matadors are off to their best start through 25 games since the 1996 team went 21-4. CSUN finished 16-9 in 2014 and 2009 and 15-10 in three other years.Â
CSUN returns to action this Thursday as part of a four-day tournament at Matador Diamond. The Matadors will face Bryant University at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
