NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team carded rounds of 299-309 for a two round total of 608 and sit seventh after 36 holes of the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate Monday at Sandpiper G.C.
The Matadors' 299 in the first round was good for fifth in the eight team field but the second round 309 dropped them into seventh.
"It's frustrating because this is a talented group of guys," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "This is kind of what we've done all season; we get something and then it blows up. Today we putted really poorly but we'll see if we can play better tomorrow and build something for conference."
Joey Varnam, competing individually, has CSUN's low score through two rounds as he is tied for 10th at three-over 147. Varnam was in third place following an opening round 71 but slipped to 76 in round two.
A majority of the Matadors' starting five is bunched in 22nd-place as Dodge Ward, Michael O'Connor, Aden Louez and Steven Molumby all finished at eight-over 152. Ward and O'Connor both posted identical rounds of 75-77 while Louez finished with rounds of 73-79 and Molumby carded consecutive rounds of 76.
Conrad White, also an individual, is tied for 41st at 12-over 156 (78-78) while Tim Snyder is tied for 48th with teammate Aaron Grimes at 15-over 159. Snyder, the last of the starting five, carded rounds of 80-79 while Grimes finished with scores of 79-80. Luis Calderon and Sam Engel, also playing as individuals, are 51st and 53rd respectively. Calderon is at 17-over 161 (80-81) while Engel is at 18-over 162 (80-82).
