Shin Ties for 18th, Matadors Finish Eighth at Big West Championship

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Senior Sharon Shin posted her best finish of the season while the CSUN women's golf team finished eighth following the final round of the Big West Championship Tuesday at El Macero C.C.
Shin, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., capped her CSUN career with her best-ever finish at the conference championship. Shin matched her first round score with a five-over 77 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 18th at 14-over 230. Shin, who played virtually error-free golf on the front nine, was the Matadors' low scorer in each of the final two rounds.
Elisabeth Haavardsholm made a bid for a second Matador in the top 20 but wound up 26th following a final round of seven-over 79. Haavardsholm wound up posting a three-round total of 17-over 233 with scores of 76-78-79. Red numbers were rare for CSUN in the final round as Haavardsholm had two of the Matadors' three birdies on the day.
Cesilie Hagen and Arinda Bhanaraksa tied for 34th at 22-over 238 after Hagen finished with rounds of 78-80-80 and Bhanaraksa posted scores of 76-81-81. Rebecca Bostrom completed the CSUN scoring as she finished 39th at 32-over 248 following rounds of 85-82-81.
UC Davis claimed its sixth consecutive Big West Conference Championship as the Aggies fired a final round 289 for a three-day total of six-under 858. Hawai'i was second at 887 with Long Beach State (906) and UC Riverside (906) tying for third. Cal Poly (914) finished fifth followed by Cal State Fullerton (917), UC Irvine (926) and the Matadors (939).
Individually, Andrea Wong of UC Davis won medalist honors after firing a three-under 69 on Tuesday to finish at eight-under 208, five shots ahead of Hawaii's Raquel Ek (213).
