CSUN Falls 5-2 At San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (12-4) lost 5-2 to San Diego State Tuesday afternoon. Senor Criss Rodriguez and junior Jessica Warren scored singles victories for the Matadors, but San Diego State won a pair of three-set victories in the top two draws to secure the victory.
Warren improved to 10-2 on the year with her 6-1, 6-4 victory in the sixth draw. She has won seven of her last eight singles matches as the Matadors prepare to face Big West rivals Cal Poly (April 10), UC Irvine (April 12) and Hawai'i (April 19).
Rodriguez also won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-4, to record her team-best 12th singles win of the season. One of the team's two seniors, Rodriguez is 3-2 against Big West opposition this season.
Unfortunately, CSUN lost a pair of three-set decisions in the top two matches. In the top draw, Vivian Lin lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and Mickey Hsu fell 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the second match despite determined efforts.
In doubles play, the Aztecs won two of the three matches. Rodriguez and Warren powered to a 6-1 decision in the No. 3 draw to improve to 9-3 on the season.
"Even though we did not make the most of our opportunities, I am still proud of the way this team fought," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "Criss and Jessica were focused from the first point and Vivian battled back and played an outstanding match."
The Matadors now begin their final stretch of dual matches before the Big West Tournament. CSUN squares off with Cal Poly on the road Friday, April 10, before hosting UC Irvine on April 12 and Hawai'i on April 19.
