NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Women's Soccer (7-4) dropped a 4-1 decision at San Diego (2-6-2) on Friday night at Torero Stadium. Camille Watson recorded her first goal of the season in the match while Sylvia Trinh registered her third assist of 2015 on Watson's goal.
After coming from behind from a two-goal halftime deficit at San Jose State last Sunday, the Matadors were unable to overcome falling into an early hole in their match with San Diego on Friday.
Despite early looks at goal including shots from Kiley Norkus and Ariana Tran, and two corner kick opportunities, the Toreros struck first in the 8th minute. Rachel Conners found the back of the net with a header off a cross deep inside the box.
CSUN looked for the equalizer but was unable to square the contest up in the ensuing minutes, as Kendall Moskal had her shot blocked by a defender and Watson shot high of the net.
Still ahead by a goal, San Diego added to its lead with a pair of goals less then seven minutes a part beginning in the 23rd minute. Julia Sherwood struck the net, driving a 30-yard free kick into the goal and Victoria Walker knocked in USD's third goal off a rebound.
San Diego went into the half ahead 3-0 and after intermission added a fourth goal in the 48th minute off a score from Julianne De Armas.
The Matadors answered quickly less than six minutes later in the 54th minute to cut into the USD lead. Off a breakaway, Watson utilized a pass from Trinh to beat the goalkeeper and record the third goal of her CSUN career.
Despite cracking the scoreboard, CSUN was unable to inch closer the rest of the way, posting three shots with one shot on the goal over the final 35 minutes. Lyndsey Preston recorded the Matadors' other shot on goal of the match, driving a shot to the net that was stopped by McKenna Tollack at 86:28.
In the contest, CSUN outshot San Diego 11-10 and the teams finished tied, 6-6, in corner kick opportunities.
With the score, the junior Watson has scored a goal in each of her three seasons with the Matadors. Playing in her hometown of San Diego, Trinh tallied her third assist of the season.
CSUN returns to the field Sunday to face No. 15 Texas Tech at 1 p.m. from Matador Soccer Field to close out its non-conference schedule. The CSUN Sports Network via BigWest.TV will air a live video stream of Sunday's game.
