CSUN Women 20th, Men 22nd at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The CSUN men's and women's cross country teams traveled north on Saturday as the women finished 20th and the men were 22nd at the Stanford Invitational.
All races were run on the Stanford Golf Course with the women running 6 kilometers and the men running an 8k course.
Elizabeth Nelson was CSUN's top finisher on the women's side as the senior finished 61st (22:23.6) out of 256 runners in the field. Katie Alvarenga finished 131st in a time of 23:21.4 followed by Rachael Duriez (145th, 23:37.9), Raeanna Cortez (167th, 23:53.0), Jocelyne Ferrufino (169th, 23:55.4), Kimberly Newton (182nd, 24:06.6) and Rachel Naumann (215th, 25:06.9) who ran her first race of the season.
The CSUN women tallied a total of 550 points while running a total time of 1:57.12.
In the men's 8k, the Matadors scored 622 points (total time of 2:11.16) which was good for 22nd out of 30 teams. A total of 289 runners competed in the field as Charlie Nettle had CSUN's top finish for the first time this season.
Nettle finished 90th in a time of 25:17.8 followed by Michael Merchan (153rd, 26:03.8), Lugardo Chavez (196th, 26:38.1), Ricardo Garcia (216th, 26:55.0), James Silva (231st, 27:11.1) and Luis Chavez (248th, 27:30.6).
