NORTHRIDGE, CA - Following a second consecutive team round of 287, the CSUN men's golf team remained in sixth place Friday at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at Stockton Golf and Country Club.
The Matadors were one of two teams to repeat their score from round one to round two but a nine-stroke deficit from the top was extended to 15 shots as BYU (559) took over the team lead Friday. CSUN (574), however, is just six shots out of a potential top four finish in the 13-team field.
"We finished a lot better today and the conditions were tougher," said head coach Jim Bracken. "I'm not disappointed with how we played today and if we shoot around par tomorrow we'll give ourselves a chance to move up."
Senior Tavit Garabedian, who began the day tied for sixth, moved up one spot Friday and is in prime position for a top 10 finish. After a two-under 69 on Thursday, Garabedian posted four birdies on the way to a one-under 70 on Friday. The CSUN senior heads into the final round tied for fifth at three-under 139.
Although he struggled on the greens, junior Felix Mory finished Friday at even-par 71 and fot the tournament is tied for 16th at one-over 143. Senior Sam Engel followed up a round one 72 with a three-over 74 on Friday and is tied for 37th at four-over 146.Â
Also for the Matadors, Trym Falch (76-72) is tied for 47th at six-over 148 and Tomas Skajem (74-77) is tied for 62nd at nine-over 151.
Michael Zhang and Sevian Frangipane are also competing individually with Zhang (75-75) tied for 60th at eight-over 150 and Frangipane (81-80) 77th at 19-over 161.
