NORTHRIDGE, CA - Consistency has eluded the CSUN men's golf team of late, but the Matadors showed that over three rounds of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational which concluded Saturday at Stockton Golf and Country Club.Â
CSUN posted nearly identical rounds of 287-287-288 over the three-day tournament and finished seventh at 10-over 862.
"We were only one shot worse than the first two rounds but I was a little disappointed we couldn't put something together today," said head coach Jim Bracken. "Guys were spraying the driver all over the place today but we really grinded out the scores we had. I think we're close so we'll see what happens at Hawai'i next week."
Senior Tavit Garabedian was a bright spot for the Matadors as he matched his career-best finish on Saturday. After posting rounds of 69-70 over the first two rounds, Garabedian fired a three-under 68 to finish alone in fifth place at six-under 207. Garabedian tied for fifth at the Anteater Invitational last spring.
"Tavit played solid the entire tournament, he missed a birdie putt on the final hole or he would have tied for second," added Bracken.
Junior Felix Mory narrowly missed his second top 20 finish in three tournaments this season as a final round 72 left him tied for 21st. Mory began the day tied for 15th after posting rounds of 71-72 but wound up at two-over 215 for the tournament.
Also for the Matadors, Sam Engel posted his second consecutive round of 74 as he finished in a tie for 41st at seven-over 220. Trym Falch tied for 57th at 11-over 224 after rounds of 76-72-76 and Tomas Skajem finished tied for 61st at 12-over 225 following rounds of 74-77-74.
CSUN also played two individuals as Michael Zhang tied for 63rd at 13-over 226 (75-75-76) and Sevian Frangipane tied for 75th at 23-over 236 (81-80-75).
The Matadors will have a quick turnaround as the team boards a flight for Hawai'i and the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic next week.
