Sophomore Kiryang Kim Wins Her First Match of 2016
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (3-5) defeated Stanislaus State 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. The Matadors swept the doubles point and then took five of the six singles contests, including sophomore Kiryang Kim's first singles win of the 2016 season.Â
On a beautiful day in the San Fernando Valley, the Matadors enjoyed a strong performance against the Warriors. The three doubles teams lost one game in three matches to help CSUN earn the quick 1-0 victory.
The No. 3 team of Kim and Mari Taslagyan was the first to finish, improving to 5-1 on the season with a 6-0 decision. At No. 2, Skyla Alcon and Vivian Lin won 6-0 and in the top match, Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu took a 6-1 decision.Â
In singles, Hsu won her third-straight match in the top draw. She won 6-2 and 6-1 to improve to 4-3 on the season. Lin won 7-5 and 6-1 in the second draw and Poei captured a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the No. 3 singles contest. Lin is 2-5 in singles competition while Poei is 4-1 this year.Â
At No. 4, Alcon won 6-2, 6-0 to improve her season record to 2-4 in her freshman year. Kim won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1, to post her first singles win of the season. Leslie Chang made her season debut for the Matadors at No. 6, but she lost in a tiebreaker in the third set after the match's results had been determined.Â
CSUN hits the road for its next two contests, traveling to Las Vegas to face UNLV (Feb. 26) and Colorado State (Feb. 27) in non-conference action.Â
