Freshman Skyla Alcon Wins Third-Straight Singles Match
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN tennis team (5-8) lost 6-1 to Furman University Wednesday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. Freshman Skyla Alcon continued her strong play, winning her fourth-straight singles match over the past week to give the Matadors their only point against the Paladins.Â
After defeating opponents from Fresno State and Western Michigan last week, Alcon continued to shine for CSUN in singles play and won in straight sets in the No. 4 draw.Â
Other singles action saw CSUN battle to three sets in several matches only to see Furman walk away with the point. Vivian Lin won her opening set in the second draw, but then lost sets two and three. Kiryang Kim suffered a similar fate in the No. 5 match and fell in three sets as did junior Mari Taslagyan in the sixth draw.Â
Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu lost in straight sets in singles action and also fell in No. 1 doubles competition. Furman opened the match with a strong showing in doubles as the Paladins swept all three matches to take an early 1-0 lead.Â
The Matadors will have some time to regroup, returning to action on Tuesday, Mar. 17 with a home match against the University of Connecticut. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
