Matadors Honor Four Seniors on Saturday's Senior Day
CSUN Team Notes
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (31-22, 11-7 Big West) hosts UC Davis to conclude the 2016 Big West Conference series. The Matadors and Aggies will play a doubleheader on Friday, May 13 and a single game on Saturday, May 14 with both days slated for a 1 p.m. start. Before Saturday's home finale, the CSUN softball program will honor its four seniors participating in their final game at Matador Diamond: Madalyne Handy, Allison Lacey, Maylynn Mitchell and Ariana Wassmer. All three games will feature live stats and live audio broadcasts on the CSUN Sports Network with Brandon Marcus on the call. Fans are also encouraged to check with the CSUN softball program's official Twitter handle (@CSUNSoftball) for updates throughout the weekend.Â
Last week, CSUN dropped a tough three-game series to Cal State Fullerton. In game one, CSUN jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a first inning RBI double from Taylor Glover and a solo home run from Savannah Horvath. The game was suspended due to rain and when it resumed, Karlie Habitz blasted a solo home run to restore a two-run CSUN lead and the Matadors held on for a 3-1 victory.Â
Unfortunately, games two and three did not go the Matadors' way. Horvath blasted another solo home run, but that would be the only run the CSUN offense could muster against some tough Titan pitching. Daphne Pofek and Taylor Troost limited the Titans to just two runs on Sunday and Pofek ended the weekend with an 11-3 record against Big West foes.Â
The UC Davis Aggies enter the weekend with a 15-32 overall record and a 4-14 mark in Big West Conference play. As a team, the Aggies are batting .242 with 39 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs and 83 stolen bases. Brianna Warner is tied for the lead in the Big West Conference with 37 stolen bases and has only been caught stealing once on the year. Alexis Carney leads the Aggies with a .314 batting average and 44 hits and adds eight doubles, two triples and 18 RBIs. In Big West play, Ashley Lotoszynski is batting a team-best .306 and is tied for Warner with 15 hits.Â
In the circle, the Aggies have predominantly used four pitchers over the course of the season. Leah Munden is 8-10 with a 3.76 ERA and 44 Ks in a team-high 102.1 innings of work. Andrea Reynolds is 5-14 with a 4.62 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 86.1 innings of work while Justine Vela (1-6) and Sara Cadona (0-1) have combined to throw over 105 innings in the circle. Opponents have totaled 75 doubles, nine triples, 32 home runs and 35 stolen bases on the year. In Big West play, opponents own a .310 batting average and 48 extra-base hits in 121 innings.Â
CSUN leads the all-time series with UC Davis 29-14 and has won the last four meetings in the series.
