Matadors Post 7-0 Victory Over Westmont In 2017 Home Opener

CSUN Heads to Honolulu for Matches with San Diego, Hawai'i
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (2-1) defeated Westmont College 7-0 in a non-conference match at Matador Tennis Complex Monday afternoon. In their 2017 home opener, the Matadors stormed to victory behind a total team effort as they prepare for a trip to the Hawaiian Islands to continue their season.Â
In doubles action, sophomores Elisa Elhadj and Skyla Alcon posted a 6-2 decision in the No. 1 draw for their second-straight win. At No. 2, freshman Emma Roenholt and junior Kiryang Kim also won 6-2 for their first doubles win as a tandem. Finally, senior Samantha Judan and sophomore Elisaveta Nosenko posted a 6-0 decision in their first match of the season.Â
In singles action, Elhadj wrapped up a strong debut in her first week of action, recording a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the No. 1 draw to improve to 3-0 on the season. Senior Vivian Lin won her first singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 3 match.
Kim won her third-straight match to start the season, winning 6-0 and 6-0 in straight sets in the fourth draw. Senior Kristen Poei and Roenholt both improved to 2-1 on the season with matching 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Alcon needed a tiebreaker, but prevailed in the second draw to improve to 2-1 on the year as well.Â
The Matadors now make the voyage to Honolulu for three matches, including a scrimmage with Hawai'i Pacific, from Feb. 3-6. CSUN opens their trip with that exhibition against Hawai'i Pacific on Feb. 3 and then faces San Diego (Feb. 5) and Hawai'i (Feb. 6) to conclude the trip.Â
