CSUN Faces Tulsa, Fordham Saturday
TUCSON, Ariz. --- Facing a pair of nationally ranked opponents, the CSUN softball team (0-2) lost 9-0 in five innings to No. 21 Baylor and 6-0 to No. 10 Arizona Friday at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, AZ. The Matadors had a costly error in a six-run second that resulted in four unearned runs in their first-ever meeting with the Bears while Taylor Troost pitched admirably in a defeat to the host Wildcats.Â
Against Baylor, Alejandra Rascon and Madison Fleming posted singles against Kelsee Selman. In the field, an error in the second proved costly as Baylor pushed six runs across against CSUN starter Daphne Pofek (0-1). For the game, Pofek allowed six hits and two earned runs over 1.2 innings of work in her season debut.Â
Freshman Cheyenne Noli replaced Pofek in the circle during the second and allowed three earned runs, which came int the fourth, in 2.1 innings in her CSUN debut. Â
In the nightcap against the host Wildcats, Troost (0-1) started strong and allowed just one run through the first four innings. However, Arizona struck for three in the fifth and two in the sixth off the sophomore. She wound up allowing eight hits, six earned runs and five strikeouts in her season debut.Â
Offensively, Jessica Alexander and Taylor Glover collected singles off Taylor McQuillin, but the Arizona starter finished with 17 strikeouts and every Matador except Glover struck out at least once on the night.Â
CSUN will look to rebound Saturday morning with games against Tulsa and Fordham.
