Freshman Emma Roenholt Scores Singles Win for CSUN
LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Freshman Emma Roenholt scored a singles victory and she and sophomore Skyla Alcon won their No. 3 doubles match, but the CSUN women's tennis team (2-4, 1-2 Big West) lost 4-1 to Long Beach State in a Big West match. The Matadors now have two weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 25 at home against San Jose State.Â
Doubles play between the Matadors and 49ers Saturday was fierce. The 49ers claimed the No.1 draw while Alcon and Roenholt won 6-4 in the third. That set-up a tiebreaker in the second doubles draw, with LBSU earning the victory and the early 1-0 advantage.Â
In singles, Roenholt won when her opponent, Laura Eales, had to retire from the match after the first set. She is now 3-2 on the season, tying for the team lead in victories with Elisa Elhadj and Kiryang Kim.Â
Kim had to retire from her No.1 singles draw and suffered her first loss of the season in the process. Alcon and Vivian Lin lost in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.Â
Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu both saw their singles matches end unfinished once Long Beach was declared the winner.Â
