Second Round 286 Moves CSUN Up at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN men's golf team fired a second round 286 to move up to ninth place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Saturday at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.
The Matadors, who opened with 302 on Friday, cut 16 shots off their Saturday score moving from 11th to ninth.
"Today we played the way I think we're capable of playing," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "Any time you can go two-under on a course like this, I'm pleased with that. There's a few teams within reach tomorrow so hopefully we can move up a few spots."
Junior Felix Mory, who opened with a one-over 73 on Friday, carded a two-under 70 in round two to move up from 15th to 14th at one-under 143. Mory was even through nine holes before playing an error-free back nine with two birdies and seven pars.
Fellow junior Trym Falch, who was tied for Mory in 15th place on Friday, posted a second round even-par 72 but slipped 10 spots into a tie for 25th at one-over 145. A double bogey seven at the ninth dropped Falch to three over on the front nine, before he rebounded to post four birdies on his was to an even par back nine.
Senior Sam Engel also posted an even-par 72 in round two which moved him up 16 spots into a tie for 54th at five-over 149. Senior Tavit Garabedian made it four Matadors shooting even par or better as he also fired an even-par 72. Garabedian is currently tied for 69th at seven-over 151. Tomas Skajem rounded out the starting five as he posted his second consecutive round of 79 and is 14-over 158.
Oregon remained the team leader as the 10th-ranked Ducks carded a 271 and lead by four shots over No. 24 Colorado. Individually, Norman Xiong of Oregon continues to lead by four shots at 12-under 132.
CSUN tees off the final round Sunday morning beginning at 7:50 off the first tee.
