NORTHRIDGE, CA - Playing in its toughest tournament this spring, the CSUNÂ men's golf team posted another top 10 finish as the Matadors carded a final round 295 to finish ninth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.
"This was the strongest field we played in this spring, the top four teams were all ranked so I'm pleased with a top 10 finish here," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "We were one shot out of seventh place so I think it was definitely a good tournament for us."
Coming off an eighth-place finish at last week's Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, junior Felix Mory posted his second top 20 finish of the season as he tied for 17th at even-par 216. In Sunday's final round, Mory finished at one-over 73 with four birdies and nine pars. Mory wound up the tournament with rounds of 73-70-73.
"Felix hit the ball really well today, he just didn't make a putt," added Bracken.
Senior Tavit Garabedian posted CSUN's low round of the day with a one-under 71 which left him tied with teammate Sam Engel at six-over 222. Garabedian improved each round going from an opening round 79 to a 72 in the second round. Engel finished with a one-over 73 on Sunday to finish up with rounds of 77-72-73.
After opening with rounds of 73-72, Trym Falch slipped to a final round seven-over 79 to tie for 53rd at eight-over 224.
Tomas Skajem rounded out the Matador squad with rounds of 79-79-78 to finish tied for 111th at 20-over 236.
Oregon led from start to finish to claim the team championship as the 10th-ranked Ducks finished at 26-under 838. Oregon teammates Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong tied for individual medalist honors at 11-under 205.
CSUNÂ is back on the course next week as the Matadors travel to Long Beach to compete at the Del Walker Intercollegiate (Feb. 27-28) at Virginia Country Club.
