NORTHRIDGE, CA - Senior Tavit Garabedian fired an opening round one-under 69 to lead the CSUN men's golf team to a eighth place finish after one round of the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
The 15-team field did not complete the second round before darkness set in so teams will finish up round two Tuesday morning before continuing onto round three. As a team, the Matadors finished round one at 295, which was eighth in the 15-team field.
Garabedian was even through 15 holes before a birdie on his final hole put him at one-under for the round. At 69, Garabedian is four shots back of Cal Poly's Justin De Los Santos who carded a five-under 65.
Junior Felix Mory is just outside of the top 25 as an opening round 73 left him tied for 27th. Mory matched Garabedian with three birdies in round one but also had a pair of double bogeys.
Tomas Skajem, competing as an individual, is tied for 46th at five-over 75, Trym Falch is tied for 52nd at six-over 76, Sam Engel is tied for 61st at seven-over 77, Sevian Frangipane, also an individual, is tied for 75th at 10-over 80 and Michael Zhang is tied for 81st at 12-over 82.
Cal Poly holds the round one team lead at three-under 277.
